My story is my way of sharing with you my struggles, ups and downs, laughs and struggles through my life. It is like a book, unfinished as there is still a future to write.
Like most adults I have consumed an array of interesting experiences, dead end jobs, career changes, life challenges and tragedies, health issues and a whole lot more. It's worth pointing out that mental health has a big part to play in life decisions, however trivial they may be. I wrote this book / blog to share my most poignant moments in my life that have stuck in my mind ever since I encountered them.
Some I find hilarious thinking back on, others are moments that I would rather forget but play a big part in building my strength and a better future despite their tragic tales. When starting this book I was 38 year old male, family man born and bred in Essex who took my family with me to Loughborough 2 years from when I wrote this introduction. It's 2021 and am on a new venture to rebuild our lives and secure our future that was teetering on a knife edge before we made the big leap.
So where do I start to explain my story and what direction will it take? What I do know is it involves a cobweb of experiences, situations and dilemmas. Some of which are very memorable indeed.
At the present point I run my own business and work for myself as a driving instructor. I set up a rebounded driving school when we made the move to Loughborough 2 years ago. I like working for myself, no boss looking over your shoulder making you feel worthless and small. I mean that's how I felt working as a teacher in a secondary school. Teaching was a career path that I said I would never do seeing what my parents went through and the stories they had to share. However my mindset changed when my degree turned out to have very little of a career path attached to it. It was missold to me - a student with an unclear direction, subdued into thinking you could walk out with a qualification with a guaranteed high salary job at the end of it. That was not the case, so with a qualification saying I was an interior designer pushed me towards a path of teaching children to draw and construct products.
I don't think I had ever considered how my career and life would evolve or even become a counsellor, but I do believe that if you haven't experienced therapy then you can't become a therapist. So here I am in 2022 building my career in a new direction for the better, for myself, my own wellbeing and for my family.
So let's work together and support each other. Your venture is mine.
I hope you enjoy reading my story, and look out for the next article. One step at a time.
